On June 14, 2024, Argentina's Chamber of Deputies hosted the 1st Parliamentarians' Summit to discuss Latin America's Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulatory agenda. The event, organized by the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF), was attended by Senators and Deputies from several countries, including Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
One of the highlights of the event was the panel "AI Ethics and Human Rights," which brought together Members of Parliament from Chile and Uruguay. Our representative Gustavo Borges, from LabSul, participated especially on this panel and contributed his expertise in ethics and AI.
Organizations representing civil society, such as LabSul, Digital Umuganda, and ISOC, were present. International organizations, such as the UN and UNESCO, and private sector companies, such as IBM and Microsoft, were also present.
The summit encouraged regional collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and best practices related to AI technologies for decision-making. It also highlighted the crucial role of parliaments and explored concrete actions to consolidate a common regional position on AI issues, create appropriate regulatory frameworks and promote responsible innovation, while protecting fundamental rights and values.
LabSul's participation in this event reinforces our commitment to promoting ethics and technological innovation in AI. We thank @agustina_ordonez for her invitation and look forward to continuing to contribute to the responsible advancement of AI in Latin America.
